Music Visualizer – Information Design
Brief:
Create a dynamic/animated visualization where visual forms react to streaming
audio data.
Concept:
I went with a simpler design with a lot of open white space. I chose three colors to
symbolize the genres being represented: pop, alternative, and Christian. The pie
chart is places in alphabetical order by the title of the song and each slice is as big as
the length of the song. When hovering over a slice, the album cover and song title
and artist show up in a box at the bottom of the screen. Clicking will make the
information stay on the screen and make the song play. While the song plays, all of
the pieces of the pie come together and move to the beat of the music. You can go
back to the chart by clicking “Back to All Songs”. The different Genres are broken up
on the side as well. I wanted to make it easy to use and user friendly by labeling all of
the options, so the user knows exactly how this works. I used Illustrator to make the
design and Brackets to place the D3, JavaScript, code to make it functional.
